According to foreign media reports, recently, the British Electronic Cigarette Industry Association (UKVAS), an e-cigarette advocate organization, highly praised the new smoke-free laws introduced by the New Zealand government. The association stated that New Zealand’s smoke-free environment and product-regulated amendments are a clean stream. This law strikes a balance between ensuring that adult smokers have access to safe, high-quality products at any time while minimizing the attractiveness to young people.

The British Electronic Cigarette Industry Association wrote in a statement: "New Zealand has made a huge leap forward in its efforts in a smoke-free society. This move brings its laws into line with the United Kingdom and surpasses them in many ways. This move is not only for More smokers gain access to e-cigarette products with confidence, which has paved the way, and it has also humiliated the e-cigarette policy of its neighbour, Australia."

In Australia, nicotine e-liquid is regulated like tobacco. However, the New Zealand government regards e-cigarettes as a safer alternative to smoking, and allows retailers to provide the following information: "Completely replacing cigarettes with e-cigarettes will reduce health hazards" and "If you are a smoker, switch completely to E-cigarettes are much less harmful."

Among other provisions, New Zealand’s new legislation requires manufacturers to notify the health authorities that the product has reached safety and quality standards before selling; the nicotine limit for free base nicotine is set to 20 mg/mL, and the nicotine limit for nicotine salt products is set to 50 mg/mL; and limit the size of the container to 120 milliliters. The container is required to be protected from damage, leakage, and overflow, and has a child-proof seal.

In addition, the law stipulates that the lower sales age is 18 and restricts retail stores to only sell tobacco, mint or menthol e-liquid. At the same time, e-cigarette specialty stores will be allowed to sell a range of flavored products.

"We commend New Zealand for its bold and courageous attitude towards e-cigarettes, which has now been written into the law. This will encourage those who oppose e-cigarettes, including Australia, to re-examine the role of e-cigarettes in helping smokers give up flammable tobacco. The huge role that can be played in this respect.” The British Electronic Cigarette Industry Association wrote.
